These ponies are often flawed straight from the factory. They have been unboxed and set on display.
The red hair may look trimmed it is all the same length, just the way it falls.
History of ponies before arriving is unknown. I live in a smoke free home (though my apartment does allow smoking). I have 2 cats, so cat fur and human hair are pretty much givens.
